Information

Located in the Indian Ocean, 800 km east of Madagascar, the island of La
Reunion, a tropical climate, is, with Mauritius and Rodrigues,
the Mascarene Islands.

French since 1638, Reunion became French department in 1946.

With a total area of 2512 square kilometers, the island is bordered by 210 kilometers of coastline.

Its environment, its rainforest, its volcanic mountains and its sugar cane plantations make a colorful island.

The island consists of two volcanic packages:

- In the Northwest, the Piton des Neiges 3,070.50 meters dominates  three craters Cilaos, Mafate and Salazie..

- To the southeast, the Piton de la Fournaise 2,631mètres is an active volcano, of Hawaiian type. This is a very active volcano.

The climate of La Reunion, a tropical, is marked by the influence of trade winds. The eastern coast of the island, called "windward coast", very watered, where several rivers, such as the Mât and the Marsouins, are perennial, contrasts with the west coast, "downwind" dryland. The hurricane season lasts from December to April.

The population of La Reunion, with 706,300 inhabitants, is the most important of all overseas .

The International airport of Reunion Roland Garros

The airport of Reunion Roland Garros (IATA: RUN) is located 10km from Saint-Denis, 51 km from Saint-Gilles and 41km of Hell-Bourg.
It is served by several regular airlines that connect to the Metropolis and the countries of the area.
A bus connection is carried out regularly between the airport and bus station of Saint-Denis and taxi service is available just outside the terminal.

It is necessary to have a French driving license or international.
The road network has 380 km of national roads (88 km 2 times two lanes)
of 800 km of county roads, and about 2000 km of local roads.
