r1Located in the Indian Ocean, 800 km east of Madagascar, the island of La
Reunion, a tropical climate, is, with Mauritius and Rodrigues,
the Mascarene Islands.

French since 1638, Reunion became French department in 1946.

With a total area of 2512 square kilometers, the island is bordered by 210 kilometers of coastline.

Its environment, its rainforest, its volcanic mountains and its sugar cane plantations make a colorful island.

The island consists of two volcanic packages:

- In the Northwest, the Piton des Neiges 3,070.50 meters dominates  three craters Cilaos, Mafate and Salazie..
